Description
The stables at Edgcote House were built in 1747, as indicated by a datestone, and designed by William Smith of Warwick for Richard Chauncey. The structure is made of ironstone ashlar with a tiled roof and features brick stacks. It is arranged in an L-plan and consists of two storeys and an attic.
The left wing has a pediment and five bays, with a central two-light window that has a wooden mullion and transom, framed in plain stone. This window is flanked by doorways that have moulded stone frames, rectangular overlights, and six-panel doors. The outer bays also contain two-light windows with plain stone frames and wood mullions, all of which have leaded panes. A central pediment supported by scroll brackets features a round window and a sundial below, with the datestone from 1747 positioned between them. The roof is hipped and includes a wooden clock turret topped with a lead cupola and weathervane.
The right wing is built from similar materials and also has five bays. It features arched carriage entrances in the two left bays, accompanied by sidelights and four-panel doors. There is a doorway with a plain stone frame, a rectangular overlight, and a nine-panel door in the right bay. The first floor has two-light wood casement windows, and there are five hipped attic dormers.
