Description

Mill House is a building that originally served as a mill and mill-house, now converted into a house. The mill-house dates back to 1725, while the mill was rebuilt in the mid to late 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble and features a pantile roof with rendered end stacks. It has a two-unit plan with a lobby entry at one end and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-window range.

The front includes a 20th-century door on the far left, which has a wooden lintel above it. To the left of the centre, there are two pairs of 2-light casement windows, and to the right, there is a 3-light casement window on the ground floor. The first floor features 2-light casements to the left and right of the centre, along with a small 1-light window on the far left, all equipped with wooden lintels. A datestone located at the centre of the first floor below the eaves is made of ironstone, featuring a hood mould and inscribed with "EW/1725."

The building has an ironstone-coped chamfered plinth, ironstone quoins, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. There are also two 20th-century roof dormers. A two-storey wing extends to the rear left. Adjacent to the house is a three-storey mill building from the 19th century, constructed of brick with a slate roof, featuring segmental-arched heads to the windows; this part of the structure is now incorporated into the house and contains no machinery. Inside the house, notable features include chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a chamfered cambered bressumer.
