Description
This is a packhorse and footbridge located in Ecton, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from dressed limestone featuring dressed arch rings and a coursed rubble parapet with chamfered coping, although some of the coping stones have been recast in concrete. The bridge has a humpback design with two segmental arches and a footway that is approximately 1 metre wide, surfaced with stone retts. The parapets may have been added or rebuilt later. Additionally, a small engineering brick outwater has been added on the west upstream side. The bridge spans a stream that likely represents the original river course of the River Nene, prior to the creation of a new cut just to the south.
