Description
This is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of ironstone ashlar, with some rubble to the lower courses, and has an artificial stone slate roof. Brick ridge and end stacks are present. The house follows a lobby-entry 5-unit plan and is arranged over two storeys and an attic, with a 6-window front. A four-panel, part-glazed door is set within a reeded pilaster surround and flat hood. Two ground floor and first floor windows on the left-hand side have 20th-century replacement windows designed to imitate sash windows, with moulded stone sills, surrounds and lintels featuring keyblocks. A datestone inscribed W/R.I.1769 is positioned between the first floor windows. Further 2- and 3-light casements with timber lintels are also present. A blocked window sits above the front door, with other blocked windows visible elsewhere. The building has moulded stone eaves, a stone-coped gable with kneelers to the left gable, and quoins to the left-hand end angle. A long outbuilding range extends to the rear, including a pigeon loft, and features a stone-coped gable with kneelers at its end. Inside, stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops are present. One room on the ground floor, at the left end of the house, retains mid-18th century fielded panelling to the chimney piece.
