Description
Milton Malsor Manor House is a manor house that dates from the late 17th century, with origins in the late 16th century. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble, rendered, and features a slate roof with brick end stacks. The house has a three-unit plan in an L-shape, consisting of two storeys and an attic, and has a five-window range. The central entrance has a part-glazed door set within a painted moulded stone surround topped by a broken pediment. The ground and first floors are adorned with 12-pane sash windows that have eared painted stone surrounds. Additional architectural details include a plinth, moulded painted storey bands, modillion eaves, a moulded wood cornice, and stone-coped gables with kneelers. There is a full-height wing at the rear right and a 20th-century extension made of red brick on the rear left.
Inside, the manor features a stone-flagged hall and an open well staircase that leads from the ground floor to the attic, showcasing a fine mid to late 17th-century acanthus roll balustrade. The drawing room includes fielded panelling surrounding an eared wood chimneypiece, while the former kitchen has an open fireplace with a cambered bressumer. Upstairs, there is a mid-18th-century eared wood chimneypiece with carved ornament and veined marble slips. The roof structure features collar trusses. Notably, dates of construction are recorded on a beam behind the panelling, indicating 1585 with the names Luke and Mathew Mantell, and 1685 with the name John Dee.
