Description
Great Houghton House is a 17th-century building that was altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rubble and ashlar with a slated roof featuring stone coping and kneelers at the gables, and has three pedimented dormers. The house has two storeys and attics, with a plinth at the road front, a first-floor band, and slightly projecting bonded quoins. There are three sash windows beneath keystones and a two-light stone mullioned cellar window on the left. The south side has a gable with early 19th-century windows. The building has an L-shaped plan that includes a one-storey closed porch added around 1830, which has a castellated parapet. Great Houghton House is one of the three manor houses in Great Houghton. It is part of a group that includes the garden wall and outbuilding.
