Description
No. 65 High Street is a house dating from the late 17th century, which was remodeled and faced in brick around 1840. The original stone walls are now covered with red and blue bricks arranged in a chequer pattern, and it has a tiled roof with brick stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring four bays. The doorway, located in the second bay from the left, has a brick surround with an arched head, a three-panel door, and a flat timber hood supported by brackets. To the left of the doorway is a four-pane sash window in an arched brick surround, with two similar windows to the right and additional matching windows on the first floor. A string course runs along the first floor level, topped by a brick dentil cornice. The gable ends are coped with stone and have kneelers. Inside, the two ground floor rooms each contain a set of chamfered beams and an open fireplace with a timber bressumer and a 19th to 20th-century grate.
