Description
This is a K6 telephone kiosk designed in 1935 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. The kiosk is constructed from cast-iron and glass and is painted red overall. It features long horizontal glazing in the door and sides, with crowns applied to the top panels rather than perforated. Rectangular white display signs, reading TELEPHONE beneath the shallow curved roof, are present, though now faded and discoloured. The kiosk is generally in good condition and retains its original glass panels. The interior now contains modernised telecommunications equipment.
The kiosk is situated on a grass verge on the south side of Manor Road, at its junction with a metalled road providing access to several private houses, including Grooms Cottage (Nos. 18 and 19) and School House (No. 20), all of which are separately listed at Grade II. The kiosk has a strong visual relationship with these three listed buildings.
Note: The modern telecommunications equipment within the kiosk is not considered to be of special architectural or historic interest.
