Description
The School House, located on Lamport Manor Road in Hanging Houghton, is a building dating from around 1775. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone and features a plain tile roof. The structure has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with a three-window range that includes 19th-century sash windows. The ground floor has tripartite windows, while the first floor has two-light windows, all set under flat arches.
The central entrance features a 20th-century glazed door with a flat arch and a 20th-century hood above it. The building has ashlar gable parapets and brick stacks at both ends. Above the door is an inscribed tablet stating, "This charity school founded endowed by the will of Sir Edmund Isham Bart. for the boys and girls of Hanging Houghton." There are 20th-century extensions at the rear of the building. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted that the room to the left of the entrance has an open fireplace with a bressumer.
