Description

The Old House is a mid-18th century house, dated 1722, constructed from ironstone rubble that is squared and coursed, with three courses of later brick below the eaves. It features a 20th-century plain-tiled roof, which has one brick ridge stack and two later brick end stacks set on stone bases. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range.

To the right, there are two 18th-century three-light windows, one on each floor, both with moulded and mullioned designs, and the ground-floor window has a hood mould. The four windows in the center and to the left are 19th-century, made with wood frames and glazing bars, and have wood lintels above. The late 19th-century door has a wood lintel and frame, with a moulded wood arch. The door itself is made of wood planks and features an iron handle and hinge. The corners of the building and the door are accentuated with quoins, and the roof has coped gables.

Above the door to the right, there is a datestone inscribed with "MN/1722". Inside, the house has an 18th-century wooden staircase with carved flat balusters. The ceilings retain original beams and rafters, which are chamfered and have chamfer stops, with one beam being moulded. There are three inglenook fireplaces that are now blocked, corresponding to the stacks above.
