Description

Welton Manor is a country house built in the mid-18th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring flared headers and ashlar stonework, topped with a plain-tile roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window range of fifteen-pane unhorned sashes, all set beneath gauged brick lintels and stone sills.

To the right of the centre, there is an early 19th-century Doric entrance porch with an entablature, featuring a part-glazed door and overlight. The gables on the left and right sides have arched windows, with an additional one-light window on the right gable. The building includes a stone plinth, rusticated quoins, a moulded cornice, and stone-coped gables with kneelers.

On the garden front to the right, made of ashlar, there is a central canted bay with more sashes and a ground-floor French window. Flanking this bay are Venetian windows on both floors, with triple keystones above all windows and rusticated quoins at the angles of the bay. The house features three 19th-century gables, the central one having a further sash and a pierced stone balustrade in front of the canted bay, with additional sashes to the right and rear.

Inside, the manor boasts an 18th-century oak staircase, originally from Moot Hall in Daventry, which features three turned and fluted balusters per tread, along with six-panelled doors.
