Description
No. 54 Daventry Road is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is built of coursed ironstone rubble and has a corrugated iron roof that replaces the original thatch. The house features brick ridge and end stacks, with those on the ridge and right end set on stone bases. It has a three-unit lobby entry plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-window range.
The entrance is an old plank door located to the right of centre, framed by a moulded wood surround and a timber lintel. The windows are three-light leaded casements on both the ground and first floors, also with timber lintels. The building has quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers, and brick eaves. The current back door, positioned in the lobby-entry area, may have originally served as the main entrance. Inside, the house features chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, a collar-truss roof, and a salt cupboard.
