Description

This is a cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, located on the north side of The Green in Evenley. It is constructed of limestone rubble and squared uncoursed stone, with a thatched roof and brick and stone stacks. The cottage has two storeys and an attic, with four bays. A doorway is located in the second bay from the left, featuring a wooden lintel, an overlight added in the 20th century, and a 20th-century stone porch. A blocked window in the left bay has a wooden lintel, and below it is a cellar window with a wooden lintel and a 20th-century metal casement. A window in the right bay retains its original stop-chamfered lintel. A 2-light casement window with a wooden lintel is located to the left of the doorway at mezzanine level. The first floor has 20th-century casement windows. Inside, an original newel staircase is situated within the thickness of the wall to the left of the entrance. Part of the raised cruck construction is exposed, though most of the roof timbers have been renewed. The cottage was remodelled in 1984.
