Description

Dormer Row is a terrace of eight houses built around 1869 in Evenley. The houses are constructed from squared, uncoursed limestone and limestone rubble, with a tiled roof and brick stacks. They are two storeys high with an attic, and originally had entrances at the rear. In the 20th century, front doors were added to numbers 5 to 9, while numbers 11 and 12 retain their original rear doorways, featuring wood lintels and plank doors. All windows originally had wood lintels. Numbers 5 to 9 still have 19th-century sliding sash windows; the others have 20th-century wood casements. Each house has a gabled dormer window with horizontal sashes or wood casements. The roof is tiled with bands of blue and yellow tiles. Local tradition suggests the terrace was commissioned by the Pierrepoint family of Evenley Hall as part of the development of The Green in the mid-19th century.
