Description
The Cartwright Arms Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates back to the 17th century and has been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble and features a slate roof with a coped left gable and brick stacks. It has two storeys and a cellar, with three bays. A carriage entrance is located in the right bay, which has a wooden lintel. The left bay contains two 17th-century cellar windows that have two lights, stone mullions, and square hoods, though these are now blocked. The other windows have early 19th-century straight stone heads with keystones and wooden casements that consist of three lights with transoms. There is a late 18th-century extension on the right side, which is two storeys high and has two bays made of uncoursed limestone rubble, a slate roof, and three-light iron casement windows. On the left side, there is a two-storey extension made of squared coursed limestone, featuring 20th-century windows and a doorway. The interior was remodelled around 1970.
