Description
Elm Bank is a cottage dated 1707 with 19th-century alterations. It is built of coursed limestone rubble and features a thatch roof with a brick ridge and end stack. The cottage is two stories high and has a two-window range, following a two-unit lobby-entry plan. There is a 20th-century door located just left of center, which has a wood lintel and is set within a 20th-century gabled porch. Above the door, there is a sundial with an inscription that reads: "Memorandum/those 4 Elms was/planted on this hill/in Feb. 1709 by RW AC and RB."
On the ground floor, there is a three-light casement window to the left, a two-light casement window to the right, and another similar window at the far right, all featuring wood lintels. The first floor has two-light casements in eyebrow dormers. The left end stack has a datestone at the base inscribed with "17 W 07/RA." Inside, the cottage includes chamfered spine beams and a blocked inglenook that contains a 19th-century cast-iron range.
