Description

Two cottages, located on the east side of High Street in Woodford cum Membris. They date to the late 17th and 18th centuries. No. 9 is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a corrugated asbestos roof, while No. 11 is of similar construction with a plain tile roof. Both have brick end and ridge stacks.

No. 11 has a single-unit plan and two storeys, with a four-window front that angles back to the left. The ground floor features a partially glazed 20th-century door, beneath a timber lintel, alongside a three-light casement window and a single-light casement. A three-light 20th-century casement window is located on the first floor. No. 9 features a three-light ovolo mullion window with a hood mould to the ground floor on the left, and a similar window without a hood mould in a dormer above. To the right of an angled joint, there is a blocked door and two three-light casement windows to the ground floor, with two-light casements above, all with timber lintels. A rear entrance serves No. 9. The interior of No. 11 includes an open fireplace and a moulded spine beam with run-out stops. The cottages are included on the list for their group value.
