Description

The memorials located south of the line east from the southeast corner of the chancel and east of the path to the south porch at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Woodford cum Membris consist of chest tombs and headstones dating from the late 17th century to the 19th century.

There are three chest tombs approximately 1 meter south of the chancel, with dates of 1762, 1806, and a late 18th-century tomb featuring baluster corners. A row of five headstones can be found about 3 meters east of the southeast corner of the chancel, dating from the late 17th to early 18th century. Four of these headstones have cherub heads in broken pediments, while one features a kneeling figure, swags, and winged skulls.

Another headstone, located approximately 5 meters southeast of the southeast corner, is dated 1718 and includes an hourglass. There are three chest tombs about 4 meters north of the south wall, all with baluster corners, dated 1817, 1826, and late 18th century. A chest tomb approximately 5 meters south of the southeast corner of the south aisle is dated 1721 and also features baluster corners and cartouches at the ends.

Additionally, there are four headstones about 6 meters south of the south aisle, dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, with two displaying swags and two with broken pediments. Two more headstones located about 3 meters south of the south aisle include one dated 1695 with a winged hourglass and another dated 1708 with a cherub's head in a broken pediment. The other memorials from the late 18th and 19th centuries are not of special architectural interest.
