Description
The Grange is a house that has been divided into two dwellings, originally built in the 17th century with some early 19th-century alterations. It is constructed from ironstone ashlar and some brick, topped with slate roofs and featuring brick stacks at the ends and ridge. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a three-window range.
The 17th-century west range includes an early 19th-century wide, shallow timber bay window on the ground floor, a 16-pane sash window with a timber lintel on the first floor, and a single 6-pane sash window set in a coped stone gable with kneelers. To the left, there is a 19th-century glazed lean-to conservatory. The early 19th-century east range is three stories tall and features two 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor, one of which has a lintel and is located to the left of a canted timber bay. The first floor has two 16-pane sash windows with stone lintels, and similar sashes on the second floor break through the eaves, accompanied by dormers with barge-boarded gables.
The house now has entrances at the sides, and there is a single 2-light mullioned window with a hood mould in the rear west gable. The rear also includes 20th-century extensions. Inside the west range, there are some stop-chamfered beams and a blocked three-light mullioned window on the first floor east wall.
