Description
The south entrance to Kilsby Railway Tunnel, built around 1838, is a Grade II* listed structure located on the London to Birmingham Railway. It features a limestone ashlar construction with a parabolic arch that has a moulded stone surround and a machiolated cornice. The walls on either side of the tunnel entrance are made of brick and topped with stone coping. Kilsby Tunnel itself is 2,194 metres long and was constructed between 1833 and 1838 under the supervision of engineer Robert Stephenson.
