Description

The Old Priory is a house located in Upper Weedon, dating from the 16th century, with parts rebuilt in the 17th century and further additions made in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone with ironstone dressings and features a slate roof with stone end stacks. The building has an irregular plan and consists of two and three storeys.

The main façade, which faces the garden, includes a 4-light stone arch-mullion window on the ground floor to the right, flanked by offset buttresses. To the left on the ground floor is a similar 2-light window, while the first floor has a 2-light window to the left and a 3-light window to the right. The second floor features a 3-light leaded casement window with a timber lintel. There are string courses at the first and second floor levels, ironstone quoins, and a stone-coped gable with kneelers on the right side. The rear of the building has similar window styles, but includes one-light windows with moulded stone surrounds at the ground floor rear right angle.

To the left of the main range is a 17th-century addition that is two storeys and has an attic, though it is obscured by single and two-storey 20th-century extensions. The left gable end facing the street has ironstone bands, quoins, and a stone-coped gable with kneelers. The entrance is located in the 20th-century wing that faces the street.

Inside, the building features chamfered spine beams, some with bar stops, and stop-chamfered joists. There are stone fireplaces with moulded stone jambs and lintels, as well as an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer. The interior also includes some displaced 17th-century panelling and two fitted cupboards with shaped shelves, along with a collar truss roof.
