Description
The Manor House is a mid-17th century manor house constructed from lias ashlar with a plain tiled roof. It features a three-unit plan and a cross wing on the left side. The building has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic, with a three-window range. The windows include two- and three-light moulded stone mullions fitted with wooden casements. There is a partially blocked window on the ground floor of the cross wing. The entrance, located between the second and third windows from the left, has a fine moulded stone architrave and entablature, which frames a 20th-century door. A string course runs between the ground and first floors and below the eaves. The gabled roof, along with the gabled cross wing, features ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. There is a worn tablet on the cross wing. The elevation of the cross wing has a two-window range of casements with moulded stone surrounds. The rear of the house is similar, with two-light stone mullions. Inside, there is a Jacobean stair with turned balusters and a quarter landing, which has likely been altered, as well as a remnant of an open fire in the kitchen. The house is reputed to have been built by J. Markham in 1604.
