Description
The Old Rectory is a house that was originally built as a rectory in the mid-18th century, likely designed by the architect William Smith II. It features a double depth plan and is constructed from lias ashlar with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a five-window range. The central entrance is framed by a Gibbs surround and has a 19th-century panelled door. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and flat arched heads. The roof is hipped and includes dormers, with a central ashlar stack. The south front mirrors the main façade, with a 19th-century extension to the west.
Inside, the drawing room on the south front boasts a white marble fireplace, which is reputedly by John Whiting, along with a moulded cornice. The door cases are reeded, and the main staircase is made of pine, featuring a half landing, fielded panelled dado, and a twisted balustrade.
