Description

Gardener's Cottage is a 17th-century building that was remodeled in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed ironstone and limestone rubble, topped with a wood shingle roof and featuring a stone stack. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has three bays. There is a central doorway with a wood lintel and a plank door, flanked by three-light casement windows with wood lintels on either side. The left bay has a blocked window in the attic, while the right bay was covered by ivy at the time of the survey. Additionally, there is a one-light window with a 4-centred head and a moulded stone frame on the left side.

Attached to the right side is a wall that projects forward, made of 18th-century brick in Flemish bond with stone coping. This wall features a square-headed gateway with an ironstone ashlar surround at the west end. On the north side of the wall, there is a terrace, likely from the 18th century, which connects to a gazebo at the east end. The gazebo, originally from the early 18th century and remodeled in the 20th century, is built of blue and red brick in Flemish bond with a hipped tile roof. It has one storey on the north side facing the terrace and two storeys at the rear. The central doorway has a brick frame and an 18th-century six-panel door, flanked by 18-pane windows in brick frames. The interior features early 18th-century bolection panelling.
