Description
This is an altar tomb located approximately 22 meters south of the Church of St. Leodegarius in Ashby St. Ledgers. It was designed in 1939 by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Ivor Churchill Guest, Lord Wimborne, who died in the same year. The tomb is made of Portland stone and features a slate top. It has a deep hollow chamfered base. The south and north sides of the tomb each have a central inscription plaque, which is flanked by roundels in moulded frames. The plaque on the south side records the birth and death of Lord Wimborne, while the north side commemorates his wife, Alice. On the west side, there is a coat of arms in a cartouche surmounted by a coronet, and on the east side, a shield of arms with supporters and a motto. A cross also forms part of this memorial.
