Description

Leeson House is a house that was formerly a vicarage, built in the mid-17th century and partly rebuilt in the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building features coursed squared ironstone, banded with limestone in the older sections, and has plain-tile roofs. It has a brick end stack on the left, a brick rear lateral stack, and a massive stone internal stack with three brick diagonal flues. The house is designed in an L-plan and has two storeys plus an attic, with a five-window range.

To the left of the center, there is a 19th-century part-glazed door set in a moulded stone surround with a four-centred head. This door is flanked by 19th-century dressed limestone canted bay windows that have stone mullion and transom windows. On the right side of the ground floor, there is a two-light casement window with a timber lintel. The first floor features similar two-light windows, with a three-light window above the right bay, all equipped with timber lintels. The cross wing on the far right includes a four-light stone mullion leaded window on the ground floor, a similar three-light window on the first floor, and a similar two-light attic window, all with hood moulds. The house has a chamfered plinth and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The interior has not been inspected. This house was once the home of Jane Leeson, who founded the school nearby.
