Description
Abbey Way House is a farmhouse dated 1841, constructed from limestone ashlar with a hipped slate roof and brick lateral stacks. The building features a double-depth plan and is two stories tall with a three-window range. The central entrance has a four-panel door topped with a fanlight and a segmental-arched head, complete with key and voussoir blocks. Sash windows are present on both the ground and first floors, featuring stone lintels and keyblocks, except for the central first-floor window, which has a segmental-arched head. To the left, there is a two-story wing. The garden front mirrors this design but has a round-arched head for both the door and the central first-floor window. An ironstone datestone above the back door on the left side elevation is inscribed with "K/SK/1841". Inside, there is a stone-paved staircase hall that includes an open-well staircase with thin splat balusters, carved head ends, a ramped and wreathed handrail, and a cast-iron standard. The fanlight above the front and garden doors features coloured glass, and there is a statuary marble chimneypiece sourced from Whittlebury Lodge.
