Description

This is a house, dating from around 1640, initially built for Edward Jarvis, who was a yeoman. The house is constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble with ironstone dressings and has an artificial stone slate roof, originally thatched. It features a central brick and stone stack and follows a two-unit lobby entry plan, with a cellar and attic. The building is two storeys high and five bays wide. A two-light stone mullioned window illuminates the cellar in the left bay. The doorway, located third from the left, has a stone four-centred head and a 20th-century plank door. Flanking the doorway is a single two-light stone mullioned window with a square hood. Above the doorway, at mezzanine level, is a similar two-light window. The outer first-floor bays contain single-light stone-framed windows, while the inner bays have two-light stone mullioned windows. A two-light window with a stone mullion is positioned centrally in the attic. The roof has coped gables with kneelers. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a bread oven, and two 17th-century stone fireplaces with four-centred arches on the first floor. The staircase is from the 20th century.
