Description
This is a barn and attached farm buildings, likely built around 1830 for the Evans family of Laxton Hall. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and features roofs of Collyweston and concrete tiles, arranged in an L-shape. The barn, located in the north range, has central gabled porches with arch-headed cart entrances and plank doors. Attached to the west of the barn is a range that includes a first floor, likely a hayloft, with a ground floor plank door and a similar door on the first floor to the right, along with various casement openings under wooden lintels. The elevation facing the farmyard has later lean-to extensions. The west range, which is attached at a right angle, features a central arch-headed doorway flanked by lunettes. The two ranges are connected by a square corner block with a pyramid-type roof. While the interiors were not inspected, it was noted that some original roof structures remain. Originally, the buildings served various purposes, including loose boxes, a cow house, a fasting pen, and a slaughterhouse, as part of a model farm that also includes Home Farmhouse and other nearby farm buildings and a dovecote.
