Description
The pump house, located at SF 9702 9729, is a Grade II listed structure, likely built in the 19th century for the Fineshade Abbey estate. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and brick and consists of a single unit that is partly below ground. The external wall features ashlar stone with remnants of a parapet. A plank door is set under a shallow arch and is flanked by ashlar walls. Inside, there is a plain brick vault.
The pump house contains an overshot iron water wheel, which still has some wooden paddles remaining. There are also remnants of pumping machinery attached to the structure, along with a shut-off valve located in the wall above the water wheel. A lead pipe rises from the pumping machinery, indicating that it was likely used to pump well water to Fineshade Abbey.
