Description

Numbers 33, 35 and 37, High Street are a house, now divided into two dwellings and two shops. The building likely dates from the mid-16th century with alterations in the 18th century. It is constructed of limestone, now rendered, and has a thatched roof. Originally it was probably an open hall with a through passage, and it is now a single-storey building with an attic. The front has a five-window range of casement windows with glazing bars and 20th-century leaded lights, set under eyebrow dormers. Number 33/35 has a 20th-century door to the left, and Number 37 has two 19th- and 20th-century shop windows. A central through passage is now an open entry. The building has ashlar gable parapets, kneelers, and brick stacks at the ridge and end.

Inside Number 33/35, there are moulded spine beams with run-out stops and cornices to the ground floor rooms. A blocked open fireplace is located in a room to the rear, along with an 18th-century fielded panelled dado and an arch-head recess. A mid-18th-century staircase with turned balusters is also present. The roof structure incorporates raised crucks. Number 37 has an open fireplace and fielded panelled dado in the shop to the left.
