Description

The Cottage is a mid-18th century house located in Earls Barton, London End. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone with a pantile roof. Originally planned as a two-unit dwelling, it now presents a two-storey, two-window facade featuring 20th-century casement windows with leaded lights. Brick stacks are situated at each end. An entrance is located within a single-storey, 20th-century extension to the left. The rear of the house displays 19th-century casement windows set beneath wooden lintels, alongside a central entrance. Internally, the house retains chamfered ceiling beams, remnants of an open fireplace with a bressumer, and a dog-leg staircase. Historical records suggest the cottage was once part of the adjacent workhouse at numbers 3 and 5 Sunnyside. The building is included on the list for its group value.
