Description
Greyston House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with an early 19th-century datestone that has been partially obliterated. It is built of squared coursed limestone and has a pantile roof. The house originally had a three-unit plan and consists of two storeys with an attic. The ground floor features a three-window range, while the first floor has a two-window range. The windows are casement types set under wooden lintels, with the far left ground floor window being a 19th-century tripartite sash under a renewed wooden lintel. The central door, which is from the 20th century, is also set under a wooden lintel and is accompanied by an early 20th-century porch. To the right of the porch are two buttresses that are likely from the 20th century. The house has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, as well as ashlar ridge and end stacks, some of which feature moulded cornices. Above the porch is the datestone, which has initials "T.S." referring to Thomas Slatcher, a local builder.
Inside, the house has ovolo-moulded and stopped spine beams. The room to the right of the entrance includes a restored open fireplace, while the central room has an open fireplace with a bressumer. The room to the left of the entrance contains 17th-century fireplaces with four-centred arch heads, and the first-floor room above is said to have a similar fireplace. There have been various late 19th-century alterations, which may include artifacts from other locations.
