Description

Sage Green is a house, likely dating from the late 17th century, situated on the south side of Main Street, Polebrook. A datestone reading TS/1823 indicates a later alteration, probably involving raising the roof. The house is constructed of regular coursed limestone and has a thatched roof. Originally built with a two-unit plan, it now has two storeys and a two-window front. The windows are 19th-century casements with wooden lintels. A central 20th-century door is also under a wood lintel. The gables have brick and ashlar parapets, and brick stacks are located at the ends of the building. A single-storey brick extension was added to the rear in the 20th century. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a bressumer, ceiling beams, and remnants of an early 19th-century corner cupboard. The work carried out in 1823 was undertaken by Thomas Slatcher, a local builder.
