Description

Hartford Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of regularly coursed limestone and features a slate roof. The original layout was a three-unit plan, and the building is a single storey with an attic. The front has a two-window range at ground level, which contains 20th-century casement windows set in the original openings, topped with wooden lintels. There is a central 20th-century door also under a wooden lintel. The cottage has three 20th-century wooden eaves dormers, along with ashlar gable parapets and rendered stacks at the ridge and ends. A 20th-century brick extension has been added to the rear. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams and two open fireplaces with bressumers. The room to the far right of the entrance was originally unheated.
