Description
The Old Bakery is a house located on Church Row in Polebrook, dating from the mid 18th century and mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of regularly coursed limestone and features slate and asbestos slate roofs. The original layout was a two-unit plan, and the building stands two storeys high with a three-window range of casements beneath wooden lintels. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed door, also under a wooden lintel. There are brick and stone stacks at both ends of the building. The roof was slightly raised in the mid 19th century. To the left, there is a lean-to extension, and at the rear, there is an extension that was raised in the early 20th century, which was originally the bakehouse. The interior may contain a blocked open fireplace, which was remodeled in the mid to late 19th century. The building is included for its group value.
