Description
Wantage House is a farmhouse, now a house, built around 1820 with mid-19th century and late 20th century alterations. It is constructed of brick and features a concrete tile hipped roof. The building has a chamfered plinth and eaves supported by wooden brackets. There are two side wall stacks, a single gable stack, and two ridge stacks. The house is two storeys high and has three bays in an L-plan layout.
The west front includes central steps leading to a small portico supported by fluted iron piers. The entrance features a six-panel beaded door, with the top two panels glazed and a patterned fanlight above, flanked by single 8/8 sash windows. On the upper level, there is a central 6/6 sash window flanked by single 8/8 sashes. All windows have rubbed brick heads. On either side of the house, there are ramped flanking walls that are 3 meters long, with square piers and half-round coping. The north rear wing, added in the 19th century, has dentillated eaves and features 19th-century sash and casement windows with segmental heads.
