Description
Duck End Farmhouse, now a house, was built in the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with some ironstone banding to one wing, and has a Collyweston stone slate roof with coped gables and moulded stone end stacks. The main block has a cross-wing to the west. The main block is two storeys and an attic, with a two-window front. A board door is set within a 4-centred arched moulded stone surround to the left. There are 2- and 3-light stone mullioned windows with cornices over. Two 2-light hipped dormers light the attic. A single bay addition is on the right, also with similar details. The gable end of the wing has a 2-light mullioned window. The west flank of the wing, comprising three bays, shows evidence of rebuilding and has 2- and 3-light mullioned windows. The interior has been altered but retains a full-height dog-leg staircase with a closed string, turned balusters, plain newels with ball finials. A 4-centred arched chimneypiece with a cyma recta cornice is in the right-hand ground-floor room, and a larger, plainer 4-centred arched chimneypiece, likely reset, is in the ground floor room at the south end of the wing.
