Description

Cranford Hall is a country house, now converted into flats, dating from the early to mid 18th century, with slight alterations in the 19th century and further changes around 1950 during its conversion. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar with rubble end walls and features a twin-span slate roof along with moulded stone end stacks.

The main block stands three storeys high and has a seven-window range topped with a heavy cornice. The north front showcases a central tetrastyle Roman Doric portico that includes a complete entablature, with 20th-century double part-glazed doors. The ground and first floors have 6/6 sash windows adorned with flush triple keystones, while the second floor features 6-pane windows.

On the south front, the windows are similar but include cornices, with three of the left-hand ground floor windows being lengthened. The central first-floor window has a lugged architrave and pediment, and the central second-floor window is framed by a moulded stone surround. An engaged stone doorcase mirrors the design of the north portico. There is also a 19th-century terrace with balustrades and urns.

To the east, there is likely a later 18th-century wing that is two storeys high, with a three-window range and a stone end stack, also featuring a cornice and 6/6 sash windows. A 20th-century door with a traceried overlight is set in a moulded stone surround on the north side. The main interior has not been inspected.
