Description
Forge House and the attached outbuilding date from 1763 and are located on the west side of High Street in Islip. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and features a pantile roof. It has a three-unit plan with an outshut and stands two storeys high. The front has a three-window range of casements set under wooden lintels. To the right of the centre, there is a 20th-century door, also under a wooden lintel, with a 20th-century hood above it. The gable ends have ashlar parapets, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and ends. The datestone is positioned above the door. The attached outbuilding, which was formerly the forge and is now part garage, is a single storey with a pantile roof. At the rear, there is a late 18th-century outshut with a catslide roof. Inside, the room to the right of the entrance features an open fireplace with a bressumer.
