Description

No. 38, 40, and 42 High Street is a house that has been converted into a house and two shops. It was originally built in the 18th century and remodeled in the early 19th century. The building is made of limestone, now covered in stucco, with a slate roof. It is likely based on a three-unit plan and has two storeys. The facade features a four-window range of irregularly spaced unhorned sash windows with glazing bars and plain stucco surrounds. To the right of the center, there is a three-panel door with a glazed toplight, which has a similar surround. To the right, there is a late 19th or early 20th-century shop front with canted sides and a central part-glazed door. The shop front to the left is from the 20th century. At each end of the building, there are brick and stone stacks that show remnants of raised bands. Inside, there are some spine beams. The building is included for its group value.
