Description
34 and 36 High Street is a house that has been converted into a house and two shops. It dates from the mid-18th century and was remodeled in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of limestone, which is now covered in stucco, and features a plain tile roof from the 19th century. Originally, it had a two-unit plan and consists of two storeys with an attic.
The first floor has a two-window range of 19th-century canted wooden bays with sash windows. The ground floor features a 19th-century shop front with five lights, decorated cast-iron colonettes between the lights, and canted end lights. There are part-glazed doors to the right of center and to the left, along with a panelled door on the far left. Above the shop front, there is a fascia with a scroll frieze. The building has a pair of gabled roof dormers with sash windows and bargeboards, as well as brick stacks at the ends that show remains of raised bands. There are 19th and 20th-century extensions at the rear. Inside, the building has spine beams and a pine panelled shop.
