Description
Brook House is a house with origins in the early 17th century, largely rebuilt in the mid 18th century with later 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of regular coursed and squared coursed limestone and brick, with a pantile roof. The building follows a double-depth plan. The front elevation has two blank bays to the left, topped with a small gable. A 19th-century part-glazed door is centrally positioned under a timber lintel. A lateral stepped brick and stone stack rises from the apex of this gable. To the right is a pair of gables, one retaining remains of an ashlar parapet. A 19th-century canted bay window is on the left. Brick and stone stacks are located at each end of the building. The rear garden front, which faces the entrance front, displays a two-window range of 19th-century sash windows with ashlar surrounds on the first floor. A ground-floor casement window is partly blocked and has a French door attached to the left window. A gable on the right side of the garden front has a small section of restored timber framing in its apex. Inside, the room to the right of the entrance features a moulded spine beam. The room to the left of the entrance retains remains of an open fireplace alongside a lateral stack. All ground floor rooms are at different levels. This house was formerly part of Sudborough Brewery.
