Description
26 Paddock Lane is a late 17th-century house located in Mears Ashby. The building features regular coursed ironstone and limestone, topped with a corrugated metal and pantile roof. It was originally designed with a three-unit plan and is a single-storey structure with an attic. The façade includes a three-window range of small casements with glazing bars, with the central window projecting above the eaves. The ground floor has wood lintels, and there is a central 20th-century glazed porch with a pantile roof. The house is adorned with ashlar gable parapets and kneelers on the left side, along with large brick and stone stacks at the ridge and end. An attached barn on the right was reconstructed in the 20th century and is now part of the house. The rear of the building is similar, featuring some casement windows with wood lintels and a central eaves dormer. The left gable shows evidence of raised parapets. Inside, the entrance hall boasts a fine 17th-century fireplace with a moulded stone four-centred arch head and a moulded cornice, along with chamfered ceiling beams. A first-floor room is noted for having a similar, smaller fireplace.
