Description

The sundial, attached walls, and outbuilding located approximately 20 metres southwest of Manor Farmhouse are likely from the late 17th century, with the sundial itself dating to the 18th century. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone, featuring an ashlar facade for the sundial and a Collyweston slate roof for the outbuilding. The sundial is set in an elliptically arched recess in the wall, displaying Roman numerals that follow the springing line, with a small moulded cornice above the numerals and another cornice above the arch. The attached walls create three sides of what was once a kitchen garden. There is a square-headed doorway in the east wall spur with a moulded stone surround. The outbuilding in the southwest corner may have served as a summerhouse, featuring a square-headed doorway with a chamfered stone surround and an oval window with a stone surround. The east wall extends southward to a cottage in Hall Yarn, which is not included in this listing. These walls may have originally been part of the kitchen garden for a house built on the site of Collyweston Palace, which was home to Lady Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond, before it was dismantled around 1640. A new house was constructed on the site by the Tryon family, likely in the mid to late 17th century.
