Description
66 High Street is a house that dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built of squared coursed lias stone and has a 20th-century concrete tile roof. The house has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high, featuring a two-window range of casements with glazing bars. The ground floor windows are set under wooden lintels. There is a central part-glazed door from the 19th century, also under a wooden lintel, and a fire window located to the far left. Evidence of a blocked door suggests there was once a through-passage to the far right. The roof was raised in the early 20th century, and there are brick stacks at both ends of the building. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. Inside, the room to the left contains an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and spine beams. The house has historical connections with the Catesby and Franklin families.
