Description
No. 44 on West Street is a mid-19th century building featuring three storeys constructed from coursed rubble. It has two canted bays, each with three lights and hung sash windows that include glazing bars. Above the bays, there are two windows set in Dutch gables. The building is adorned with stone dressings and a moulded eaves cornice. A small central window is positioned above a round-arched window, which is framed in stone and was formerly a doorway. This doorway is flanked by pilasters and reeded consoles that support a cornice and entablature, which is rounded above a coat of arms of a school, with two ball finials at either end. The building also features two stone chimney stacks at the gable ends. No. 44 is part of a group that includes Nos. 2 to 36 (even) and 42 to 46A (even) and 52 to 98 (even).
