Description
Sutton Bassett House is a house that likely has origins from the 18th century but was mainly constructed in the mid-19th century. It is built of squared coursed lias with limestone ashlar dressings and has a slate roof. The house features an irregular cross plan in the style of the 17th century and stands two storeys high with an attic. The main front has a five-window range that includes 2-, 3-, and 4-light stone mullion windows. The central panelled door is framed by a moulded stone surround. To the left of the centre, there is a gabled cross wing that projects forward and features 2-light stone mullion windows in its return wall. The house has ashlar gable parapets, kneelers, finials, and stone stacks at both ends. The rear of the house is similar to the front but includes some 20th-century windows. The interior is primarily from the 19th century. This building is included for its group value.
