Description
39 High Street is a late 17th-century house constructed from regularly coursed limestone and topped with a thatch roof. The building originally had a two-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic. The front features a two-window range of 20th-century leaded casements with wood lintels, and similar leaded casements with diamond panes are found under eyebrow dormers in the attic. A central 20th-century door is located beneath a thatch hood, and there are brick and stone stacks at both ends. To the left, there is a 20th-century single-storey extension that also has a thatch roof. The rear of the house is similar, with arch-headed leaded casements. Inside, there are chamfered ceiling beams, and the room to the right of the entrance includes an open fireplace with a bressumer. The owner possesses a receipt for hearth rent dated 1680.
