Description

Dovehouse Close is a house located on Higham Road in Stanwick, originally listed as Ivy Cottage. It dates from the mid 17th century, with restorations in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a plain tile roof from the 19th century. It has an H-shape plan and stands two storeys tall.

The main front has a four-window range, with gabled cross wings that project forward on both the left and right sides. The left cross wing is blank, showing some evidence of blocked openings, while the right cross wing features three-light stone mullion windows with hood moulds on each floor. There is a similar window to the left of centre on the ground floor. The central range on the first floor has three windows of plain casements under wood lintels. There are two six-panel doors on either side of the central range, each with rectangular fanlights that have glazing bars and wood lintels. Additionally, there is an eight-panel door with a wood lintel located on the return wall of the left cross wing. The gable parapets are made of ashlar and have finials on the right gable, and there are 19th-century brick stacks with ashlar bases along the ridge and ends.

The left elevation features a two-window range of plain casements. The rear elevation is similar to the main front, with three-light stone mullion windows in the cross wings and two casements in the central range, one of which has glazing bars and a wood lintel. There is also a six-panel door with glazed toplights to the left. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to contain an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade.
